Divorce is a very difficult process. Most professionals will advise clients not to seek a divorce unless all other options have been exhausted. Many marriages have been saved by counseling by pastors, priests, rabbis, and family therapists. Reconciliation occurs many times after a divorce has been filed. Some even remarry after a divorce has been granted. For most clients, the only good thing about divorce is that it ends and life continues. The quality of that life is an individual choice.
Three words commonly associated with divorce are failure, guilt, and fear. The feelings of failure and guilt pass with time. For each individual, the length of time differs. Learning reduces fear of the unknown. Learning about the legal aspects of divorce and the emotional aspects of divorce are two different things. The process of learning begins the process of growth and change.
This web site will help the reader begin learning about the legal aspects of divorce. It does not begin to address everything about divorce law. Some of the topics will apply to many cases; others will not. Every case is different. There is no such thing as a "standard" divorce. In any event, read it all.
