Did you know? A small portion of western Tipton County was cut off by the Mississippi River in the 1811-1812 series of New Madrid earthquakes. The river was diverted by seismic shifts directing it to its current flow east of the settlement, while the old, largely dry riverbed remains to the west of the settlement. This leaves it accessible only from the Arkansas side of the river.
