For veteran paralegal Heather Smith, it was truly on-the-job training which led her to pursue a career which focused on family law. Heather says working on a custody case years ago convinced her it was her mission to help people, especially children.
"I was working with a lawyer on a case where the child was being abused by her stepfather," Heather says. "During the case, the daughter became extremely attached to me. Our client, the father, won custody. I still maintain a close relationship with the daughter and father."
An Arkansas native, Heather began her legal career in Memphis in 2006, after working as a paralegal in an Arkansas law firm for several years. While in Arkansas, Heather gained valuable experience preparing and analyzing legal documents.
Her duties at Crone & Mason are vast and varied, ranging from providing direct administrative support to supervising attorneys to preparing for and assisting during trials, depositions and mediations.
"Professionally, my biggest strengths are organization, working under pressure, and handling emotional clients in a sensitive and respectful manner," Heather says.
Personally, Heather spends her free time with her family, which includes her husband and young son.
